Project Highlight: In Situ Stabilization in a Complex Urban Footprint

In Situ Stabilizaton

At a mixed-use redevelopment site in Brooklyn’s Gowanus neighborhood, Cascade was tasked with stabilizing coal tar DNAPL-impacted soils in one of the city’s most logistically complex footprints. With limited site access, ongoing vertical construction, and buried obstructions, Cascade delivered a flexible in situ stabilization (ISS) solution that met NYSDEC standards—ensuring safe future use of the property.

  • 672 ISS columns installed to 54 feet below grade, treating over 41,000 cubic yards of contaminated soil
  • Achieved permeability reduction, locking contaminants in place for long-term containment
  • Maintained zero incidents across 40,000+ man-hours while coordinating work with multiple contractors on an active site
