Project Highlight: Optimizing Injection Strategies with High Resolution Site Characterization

Environmental Remediation High Resolution Site Characterization

Understanding subsurface complexity is key to successful in situ remediation. At a site in California, a confidential client needed to refine their injection design for chlorinated solvents. Cascade was contracted to perform high-resolution site characterization (HRSC) using Cone Penetrometer Testing (CPT) and Membrane Interface Probe (MIP) technology. The goal: generate a detailed understanding of lithologic and contaminant distribution to inform dosing strategies and improve overall injection effectiveness.

Facing challenges with depth and data resolution, Cascade deployed specialized equipment and developed an Injection Optimization Methodology that supported more strategic, site-specific remediation planning.

  • 30-Ton CPT Rig Deployment: Enabled successful advancement of CPT/MIP tooling to necessary depths in difficult lithology, ensuring high-quality data collection.
  • Integrated Design Support: Cascade’s data helped refine radius-of-influence models, dose selection, and contaminant targeting—maximizing contact and boosting long-term effectiveness.
